I've lived through the golden days of Malaysian book publishing industry. Those exuberant days even music labels jump into book publishing. Market was hungry for content and any half decent blogs could be compiled to be books for sale.
It roughly ran from 2005 to 2015 and I remember it fondly as it also coincides with my university years. Many friendships built back then still lasts until today.
Don't get me wrong, I still love writing but the business of book is practically dead. There's no point expending energy on something that will create near zero return. Also there's nothing deemed significant enough for me to put it out in the long term media of books.
Learning is important and sharing is important but publishing a book is just a medium for those things. Electronic medium could still work although it doesn't quite capture the same magic.
After all, magic is just the topping on top. Hard cold science and engineering still drives the bulk of this world.
